IMS posts are used with our full range of plastic subframe components. They are set into prepared ground and cemented in place, creating a rigid and level substructure that supports the decking above.

Plastic Posts FAQs

Can plastic posts be used in waterlogged or coastal ground conditions?

Yes. Recycled polyethylene posts are fully impervious to moisture and will not rot or corrode in wet or coastal ground conditions. This makes them a strong choice for decking projects in exposed or low-lying environments where timber posts would deteriorate rapidly.

How do I keep plastic posts level during installation?

Use a spirit level to check each post in two directions before the concrete sets. Temporary bracing can help hold posts vertical while the mix cures. Check the alignment of the full post network before laying bearers, as small deviations at post stage are far easier to correct than at joist level.

Are IMS plastic posts compatible with standard joist and bearer dimensions?

Yes. IMS plastic posts are designed to work as part of a coordinated subframe system alongside our plastic bearers and joists. Contact our technical sales team on 0114 244 0030 for guidance on specifying the right components for your project.

Do plastic posts require any maintenance?

No. Unlike timber posts, recycled plastic posts require no preservative treatment, staining, or periodic re-sealing. Once installed they are fully maintenance-free, which makes them a particularly practical choice for commercial and high-footfall installations where ongoing upkeep is a consideration.

Can plastic posts be removed and reused?

If posts are set in a removable post mix rather than permanent concrete, they can be removed and reused.. However, for a standard permanent deck installation, posts are intended to remain in place for the lifetime of the structure. Speak to our technical sales team if your project requires a temporary or relocatable deck subframe.

Can plastic posts be used with a composite decking system?

Yes. IMS plastic posts are fully compatible with composite decking systems and are designed to work as part of our coordinated recycled plastic subframe range. Used alongside IMS plastic bearers and joists, they provide a complete, maintenance-free structural base beneath your composite boards. Contact our technical sales team on 0114 244 0030 for project-specific advice.
