Post Base Plates FAQs

What thickness should I specify?

For most balustrade applications, 10 mm plate thickness provides adequate stiffness. For high?load areas or public environments, upgrade to 12 mm to meet BS 6180 requirements.

How do I select the correct fixing pattern?

Fixings should be selected according to the mounting surface, such as masonry anchors for concrete, coach screws for timber, or through-bolts for steel. Always ensure the fixing method is suitable for the project requirements.

Is grade 316 necessary for interior installations?

Grade 316 offers superior corrosion resistance but may not always be necessary for internal applications. Material selection should be based on the installation environment and exposure conditions.

Should I combine plates with base covers?

Base covers can be used to conceal fixings and create a cleaner finished appearance. They are decorative components and do not contribute to the structural performance of the installation.
