GRP solid top grating provides a closed, non-slip walking surface designed for demanding industrial environments where strength, safety, and corrosion resistance are essential. Manufactured from glass-reinforced polymer, this material combines a lightweight structure with exceptional mechanical and chemical performance, making it a long-term alternative to traditional steel grating in aggressive or corrosive conditions.
Unlike Open Mesh grating, GRP solid top panels feature a fully enclosed surface that prevents liquids, debris, or small objects from passing through. This design offers improved containment, hygiene, and safety across a wide range of applications, from chemical process plants to public infrastructure.
Each panel is moulded from high-quality fibreglass reinforcement within a resin matrix, creating a rigid composite structure that resists impact, corrosion, and UV degradation. The integrated solid top surface is factory-bonded with a durable anti-slip finish to ensure consistent performance under wet, oily, or high-traffic conditions.
Material and Construction
- Resin type: Isophthalic polyester (standard) or vinyl ester (high chemical resistance).
- Reinforcement: Continuous E-glass fibres providing high strength-to-weight ratio.
- Panel sizes: Typically 3660mm × 1220mm (other sizes available on request).
- Thickness options: 25mm, 38mm, 50mm, depending on load and span requirements.
- Surface finish: Grit-bonded solid top with anti-slip profile.
- Fire rating: Tested to BS 476 Part 7 – Class 2 (self-extinguishing).
- Colour options: Standard grey, with other RAL finishes available for project specification.

GRP solid top grating is up to 60 % lighter than steel alternatives, allowing for manual handling and simplified installation without the need for lifting equipment. Panels can be cut or trimmed on site using standard saws or drills, with smooth edges and minimal dust release. Mechanical fixings or clamp sets are used to secure panels to supporting steel or GRP structures.
IMS supplies grating in both standard sheet and pre-cut configurations to suit specific layout or access requirements. All products undergo dimensional, load, and surface quality checks to ensure consistent safety and performance.
